About Us
NW Hopeful Horizons
Founded and directed by Angela and Augustine Lujan. Together they are a blended family. Augustine is a Latino male growing up in Southern Californian, facing challenges of racism and family struggles. Angela grew up in a small town impacted by family drug use, poverty, violence, and abuse and became a wife at 16 and a mom of two by age 19. Angela later faced divorce and separation from her two oldest children by the age of 21. Augustine and Angela entered the Navy, where they met in Kitsap County in 2001. They Married in 2005 and shortly after had their youngest child.
After serving in the Navy, they settled in Kitsap County in 2007, raising their collective three children, their youngest identifies as Transgender, their second oldest identifies as nonbinary, and their oldest as a cisgender male. They understand the challenges families face in youth coming out and learning to navigate understanding and acceptance. They also understand the struggles families face regarding youth with mental health struggles, as all three of their children struggled at various times with mental health challenges and continue to navigate mental health as young adults.
Both Augustine and Angela are very passionate about serving their community and using their backgrounds, education, and lived experience to help impact the lives of others. Augustine has been a business owner and possesses an MBA. Angela is also a business owner with over ten years of experience as a Mental Health Counselor.
Mission
Our mission is to provide advocacy, education, and resources to promote the well-being of youth and families in need. We believe that by creating a community that values diversity and celebrates differences, we can create a world where all individuals have the support they need to succeed.
Our focus is on youth and parents needing support and education in LGBTQIA and teen support, with an emphasis on supporting parents of transgender youth. We recognize the challenges that LGBTQIA youth and their families face, and we are committed to providing resources and support to empower them to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
In addition, we recognize the unique challenges faced by BIPOC youth and families. We are committed to engaging in advocacy, resources, and support to empower BIPOC youth and families to achieve their full potential.
Vision
The vision of NW Hopeful Horizons is to create a world where all youth and families, regardless of their background or identity, have access to the resources and support they need to live happy, healthy lives. We envision a society where diversity is celebrated and embraced, and where all individuals are accepted and supported.
We believe that every youth and family have the potential to succeed, but that many are held back by systemic barriers and lack of resources. Through our efforts, we aim to empower at-risk youth and families by providing them with the advocacy, education, and resources they need to achieve their goals.
In particular, we are committed to supporting LGBTQIA and BIPOC communities, who often face unique challenges and discrimination. We envision a society where individuals in these communities are valued, celebrated, and empowered to succeed.
